How to Recover from Burnout by Connecting Heart and Mind

Burnout is something that can affect anyone, regardless of gender. However, for women, the effects of burnout can be especially intense. We have many roles we often find ourselves having to juggle. From being a full-time employee to a mother and wife, it can be easy to feel overwhelmed and exhausted.

What is burnout?

It's important to recognize the signs of burnout and take steps to prevent it, or to address it when it arises. Burnout is a state of physical or emotional exhaustion that also involves a sense of reduced accomplishment and loss of personal identity. (MayoClinic)

Here are some tips to help you find balance and heal burnout:

1. Make time for self-care. Taking time to do something you enjoy and that makes you feel good is essential to maintaining your wellbeing. If you don’t know where to start, take a quiet moment and focus on your heart space. Ask your heart what would be nourishing to you. Whether it's going for a walk, reading a book, or enjoying a massage or spa treatment, make sure you make time for yourself. No, it’s not selfish!

2. Take breaks. It can be hard to step away from work or other responsibilities, but it's important to take breaks during the day to ensure you don't become overwhelmed. Taking a few minutes to unwind and relax can make a big difference in how you feel.

3. Get enough sleep. Lack of sleep can contribute to feeling overwhelmed and burned out. Make sure you get enough restful sleep each night to help you stay alert!

4. Establish boundaries. Learn to communicate mindfully. This includes saying “no” to things that don’t serve you – it may be hard at first, but it’s important to create healthy boundaries that help you stay focused on the things that truly matter.

4. Prioritize your tasks. Learn to prioritize your tasks based on importance and urgency. Make a list of all the tasks you need to get done and then decide which ones are most important or need to be done first.

5. Create rituals. Try journaling or meditating every day for 21 days and see how you feel.
